Charity: Asian American LEAD (AALEAD)
AALEAD’s overarching goal is to increase the opportunities and ability of low-income Asian American children to move out of poverty and become successful, self-sufficient adults. AALEAD firmly believes that education is the key to meeting this goal. However, AALEAD understands that children need additional family, school, and personal supports, not just academic assistance, to succeed. Consequently, AALEAD uses a five pronged approach to youth development, offering each child after school intervention in a safe space, mentoring, family support and educational advocacy. http://www.aalead.org/

*Fundraising:
Since we are in different locations and are not able to set up a central fundraiser, we ask that you either make a personal pledge or contact your employer for a donation. This is optional and not required to play on the team, however, we greatly appreciate any contribution to the designated charity. Our minimum suggested donation is $20. Official letters are being drafted from the Wiffle-ball Committee to distribute to employers and will be forwarded when available.

Would you be interested in helping to document a piece of history?

George Yeh, a current student at UMD, is working on putting together a documentary on the start of the AAST at UMD. The 20-30 minute documentary will be about how students worked together to start AAST, focusing on where the idea came from, how students approached Administration, what challenges they faced and how did they finally get AAST.

If you have any stories or anecdotes about your experiences with AAST and its progression into a program, now is the time share them! There are many different voices and eras that should be represented, so let your story be known!

If you are interested and/or if you have more questions about his vision please contact George directly at geoyeh@gmail.com
